    Hiro previously served as the Director of the research center, Director of the US research subsidiary, and the representative of the Singapore research branch at a leading global office equipment company. Hiro has consistently engaged in research and new business development throughout his career. His areas of expertise include electronic devices, brain function modeling, human-AI (artificial intelligence) interactions, and UX. Hiro joined Amada Holding (then) in 2019 and was in-charge of designing and establishing Amada AI Innovation Laboratory. Appointed as the Director of the laboratory in January 2020, Hiro has been in charge of strengthening the existing businesses with AI-related technologies at the core, and developing new businesses from the perspective of Monozukuri (manufacturing). Hiro is pursuing a new concept of Monozukuri, through open innovation and partnerships in academia, industry, and R&D institutions, to respond to global shifts in technological and social trends.

    Shyam Venkatesh has over twenty-five years of expertise with corporate strategy and global new business development in advanced technologies in multiple industries including energy, automotive, medical devices, and aerospace. Shyam started his career as a technology and management consultant at Arthur D. Little in the Technology and Innovation Practice. Later he worked at NASA directing Technology Transfer from NASA to the Silicon Valley start-up ecosystem. Shyam also worked at Omron, Orbees Medical, and as an advisor on new industries development to the Government of Saudi Arabia. At AIIL he is leading global new business development. Shyam has a PhD in Mechanical Engineering and MBA from the Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley.

    Mitsutoshi has deep knowledge in the fields of telecommunications, mobile data services, and industrial and medical equipment. At a major mobile carrier company, he engaged in the development of the world's first mobile internet service and was in charge of overseas business development, forming an alliance, and venture capital operations. After he launched an IoT solution business in the areas of medical and industrial equipment at a major medical equipment manufacturer, where he later serviced as the Global Vice President, Mitsutoshi joined AIIL in March 2020. He is in charge of partnership and business development with start-up companies working on deep tech focused on the future.

    Makoto has been involved in new business for about 24 years at a leading global general trading company, where he designed and executed business development and built business schemes with the motto of breaking away from existing businesses. He contributed to the company’s doubling of revenue by implementing a completely new business approach to trading company – manufacturer’s business model, which helped the company to deeply understand customer's needs, execute the best relevant proposal, and build a win-win relationship.
    Makoto’s major achievements are as follows;
    1. High pile bearing capacity method (SGE = Steel Geo Ecology method)
    2. Development of steel / aluminum mounts for photovoltaic power generation system
    3. Reinforcement method for existing power poles
    4. Standardization plan for mobile phone base stations
    5. EDI development, automated quotation software design and development

    Shuji joined Amada after graduating from university. Before he was transferred to AIIL, Shuji has engaged in Amada's software development, starting from SE operation for process management software, and then as a development leader, he has developed CAM for bending machines, for automatic bending machines, for welding robots, etc., and released them to the market. He was also assigned to two Amada overseas software development sites (India and Italy) for a total of five years. He managed software development as a bridge SE in India and as the leader of the local development team in Italy. He is currently is in charge of solution planning and managing development utilizing the latest technologies for the sheet metal fabrication industry.

    With his experience in building a digital twin environment for semiconductor design at a major electronics company and strategic consulting at a consulting firm, Ken is in charge of developing new businesses in accordance with technology strategies and introducing AI into manufacturing process. Ken is a patent attorney.

    Takashi joined AIIL in January 2020 after conducting research and development of fundamental technologies for communication robots and cyber-physical systems at the research center of a major IT vendor. His areas of interest include all areas of cyber-physical systems overall, dealing with real-world phenomena and control, and particularly is focusing on research to improve mutual interaction between the real-world and cyber-systems, which cannot be completely observed or directly controlled. At AIIL, he leads the research on co-performing manufacturing and aims to realize a Monozukuri (manufacturing) site where workers can adapt a number of variations assisted by technologies that promote harmonization between humans and machines and their mutual growth.

    Shuhei has experience with various operations centered on data analysis and utilization, such as fundamental research, commercialization studies, business applications, system development and operation, at an operating company and the research center of a major telecommunications group. He joined AIIL in August 2020. At AIIL Shuhei is focused on
    realizing the ecosystem of data utilization that will allow anyone to readily take advantage of the know-hows and skills available from humans and data. The entire ecosystem will be the focus of research and development with the goal of effective practical utilization of the results.
    Shuhei believes it’s essential for data utilization that the analytical method is easily understandable (explainability) and easy to use (simplicity).
    Ph.D. in Engineering (Dissertation: Study on recommendation method based on statistical learning).

    Ken had engaged in fusion plasma and turbulence modeling, and large-scale turbulence simulation using the K computer at universities and public research institutes. He, then, developed financial simulation code and derivative models based on deep learning at a securities company. He was, as a project manager, in charge of utilizing graph neural networks for wire harness design at a manufacturing company.
    Ken has a Ph.D. in Energy Science.
    Areas of expertise: Plasma Physics, Computational Fluid Dynamics, High Performance Computing (HPC), Machine Learning
    Major Achievements: 8th Computational Science Subcommittee Encouragement Award, the Atomic Energy Society of Japan (the youngest recipient then); 14 peer-reviewed papers (only for the first author), 6 keynote / invited lectures, 16 international conferences, and 23 domestic conferences. Priority issue 8 sub-issue 8C member of Ministry of Education
    Post "K computer", researcher member of research and development consortium of next-generation aerothermal design system for automobiles by HPC, member of turbo mechanization HPC practical application subcommittee of Turbo Machinery Association, etc.

    Praveenkumar Vasudevan is a University gold medalist during his Bachelors in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Anna University and class topper during his Erasmus Masters in Advanced Robotics from University of Genoa, Italy and Ecole Centrale de Nantes, France.
    He is multilingual and his areas of expertise/interests include Robot manipulation planning, Computer vision, Deep Reinforcement learning, Knowledge representation and reasoning.
    He started his career at Amada Co. Ltd in 2009. During his career spanning 10 years in the sheet metal manufacturing sector, he has worked in the
    - Design and development of HMI and Numerical control software for flagship AMADA machines
    - Research and development of Robot motion planning algorithms for Robotized Welding systems
    - Research and development of one-click fully automatic process sequence generation for Robotized Bending solution
    - Rapid prototyping of cloud computing based intelligent business solutions aimed at improving the sales

    Kouhei has been involved in product development and sales in the food industry for 23 years. He was in charge of staple food products and developed a large number of contacts through extensive sales activities.
    At AIIL, he uses his network and sales skills to develop new businesses and conduct corporate research necessary to strengthen and develop current businesses.
    In order to meet the needs of both companies and customers, he focuses on research-based proposals and aims to build relationships that can provide "happiness" through innovative products and solutions.
